Drinking Water Services

Installation

Britewater Installations will ensure that all fittings will be appropriate quality and suitable for the purpose. (WRAS-WRC) Approved for use with potable water and pressure rated for use with mains pressure water.

Location of POU units

Britewater will ensure that care is taken to avoid blocking the following, throughways, fire exits, heat sources, direct sunlight, sensitive areas that could result in major damage from any water leak i.e. in or above a computer room.

Site Survey

A detailed site survey is made for each installation; the following must be identified:

  • Location of the POU unit
  • A suitable power supply
  • A suitable water supply
  • Suggested route for pipework
  • Any hazards that will affect installation

The Water Supply

The water supply must be designated as a source of potable water.

This must be checked and confirmed during the site survey.

Connecting to the water supply

After connection to the water supply Britewater shall flush all pipework before connecting to the POU unit to remove debris.

Pressure Limiting Valve. (PLV)

  • We recommend that a pressure-limiting valve is installed at the point of connection.
  • The PLV must protect down to the weakest point of the installation, not just the POU unit.

The Water Supply to the POU unit.

Where flexible tubing is used to supply water to the unit, the following points shall be considered.

  • Tubing runs should be continuous and contain no joints
  • Runs should be kept as short as possible
  • Kinks and sharp bends should be avoided
  • Runs should be sheathed to avoid abrasion when passing through walls or surfaces
  • Tubing should be secured along its route to prevent movement during use
