Pseudomonas Prevention
Pseudomonas is the name given to a large species of bacteria that can have many detrimental effects in a diverse variety of water systems. The strain Pseudomonas Aeruginosa is recognised as a pathogen that can cause serious skin conditions, whereas other strains can cause significant problems in process water systems.
Pseudomonas is exceptionally resilient and can thrive in aerobic and anaerobic environments using a large variety of nutrient sources. In addition it is very common and can contaminate and colonise a water system very easily, therefore it is possible to find it in most man made water sources from domestic water to process cooling systems.
Problems caused by Pseudomonas
Contamination occurs when Pseudomonas multiply to large numbers and can cause stomach complaints if found in drinking water, skin complaints in bathing water and under deposit corrosion and fouling of heat transfer surfaces in industrial process water. Once fully established they can be extremely difficult to remove due to their slime forming properties that insulate them from extreme or unfavourable conditions.
Britewater Environmental Services Ltd has a wealth of experience in Pseudomona prevention and eradication from domestic water systems through to large industrial cooling water systems. Our surveying, monitoring and analysis service can identify problems and potential problems directly relating to Pseudomonas colonisation and can implement control and elimination regimes even well established colonies.
Our highly trained cleaning and disinfection technicians are able to physically remove accessible areas of contamination, however quite often our specialist biocides are employed to remove colonies from the more inaccessible places in water systems (of which there are many).
The best course of action however is prevention and Britewater Environmental Services Ltd has the control regimes and specialist biocides to suit the many different water systems that have the potential to grow Pseudomonas.
